# Use the Karma Message Filter

> Set the minimum Karma needed to send you a new message request.

The Karma Message Filter lets you set a minimum for new message requests. It changes who can start a request without changing your public profile.

## Change the filter

1. Open Profile Settings and choose Privacy.
2. Find Karma Message Filter.
3. Turn it on and choose a level, or turn it off.
4. Wait for the saved state before leaving the page.

The setting applies to new first-contact requests. Existing conversations stay in your inbox, and people with an established connection may be handled differently.

## If the setting appears unchanged

Refresh Profile Settings and check the saved Active or Off state. If saving failed, reconnect and try once more rather than moving the control repeatedly.

The filter applies to new requests, not existing accepted conversations, company access, or group membership. Karma is only one contextual signal, so a threshold cannot guarantee a sender is trustworthy. Keep blocking and reporting available for unwanted or suspicious contact regardless of the sender’s score.

Choose a level that reflects how many unsolicited requests you can review. If useful messages disappear, lower the filter and rely on profile inspection.
